What Is Adware?
Adware is a type of "free" software or information service, where you pay by having advertising services, tracking, popups etc displayed on your computer. Another way of describing this is Spyware
The problem with these kind of advertsing supported services, is that they will probably do a great deal of damage to your computer systems
The way it works, is that when you download a "free" piece of software, you might not realize it, but hidden inside the software, is some special tracking, which records which sites you go to, what you type into your browser, and search boxes etc. This information can then be used by a prospective advetiser to send you any number of popup type advertising messages, everytime you use the software, and probably other times as well
Adware Programs Change Your Windows System Files
Adware type "free" software, usually puts an extra peice of code with your "windows/system" files, and this might be in the shared files folder. This means that when you try and uninstall the software, the tracking files will probably still be there. So the bottom line, unfortunately, is that once your computer is infected by "adware" type programs, unless you know what you are doing and can manually edit your registry settings, then I am afraid you are stuck with the adware tracking systems and files, and the only way to get rid of them is by formatting your hard drive, and reinstalling windows. This however should only be attempted if you really have come to the end of the line, and there is nothing else you can do to recover your computer, and make it work properly again
Be Careful When Downloading "Free" Products
Obviously it is much better not to download anything that might have spyware or adware in it in the first place. However sometimes the people that produce these type of programs or "free" downloads, keep it well hidden, so that you only find out when you computer starts going really slow. There will be a disclaimer somewhere, maybe on a different page, or maybe in some "terms of service", that you might not always know are there unless you go searching for them. some of the providers also try and make it sound as if they are only trying to help you find the information you are lookinf faster. If someone wants to give you something thats good for free, then always ask yourself first, if there must be something in it for them. Usually the "something" thats in it for them, is to get software onto your computer, which will be hard for you to get rid of, and will give them and their client free advertising for years to come
Getting Rid Of Adware And Spyware On Your Computer
The good news is that if you are stuck with some adware or spyware, or you suspect you might have something on your computer, that is causing you problems, then there are a number of services that will help you get rid of it quick. Its just a case of buying a correction piece of software, which you can run at any time, you think there might be something wrong. Usually if your computer starts going slow, and you find yourself shouting at the computer to "come on", or "how can it take that long" etc etc - I know I have been there! - then this is a good sign that someone has done something to your computer. I would advise that you get your computer cleaned as soon as possible
