Succeeding With Online Auctions
Getting Started Witb Online Auctions
Online auctions are one of the most popular ways to sell second hand or unwanted items. They are also a popular medium for selling brand new items, where there is a "drop-ship" or easy wholesale option available
The truth is anyone can get started selling just about anything online using online auctions. Ebay is one of the most trafficed sites on the net, and therefore are literally thousand sand thousands of auction taking place everyday online. Ebay alone has many thousands of auctions on its site - in fact way too many for its administrators to keep tabs on what is being sold and by whom! - something that gets Ebay into trouble from time to time when their are problems e.g copyright items being sold by someone who is not the rightfull owner
Step By Step To set Up Your Auction
Getting started with your own auction is very simple. It is usually just a case of listing your item, filling in some details, setting your starting price, deciding if you want to sell by a traditional auction, or whether you want to select a "buy it now" option, where there is actually no auction in the strict sense of the word in operation. You may need to learn a bit of HTML, or at least have some templates ready, because many of the auction sites, give you the option of setting out your items, in your own HTML code. This makes your auction display on the page alot better, so a bit of preparation here wouldn't go amiss
Like anything on the internet, nothing is ever quite as simple as it sounds. There are many people for example who "have a go" with an auction, but find they have difficulty selling their item. Sometimes this is down to the prcie - people on Ebay for example are looking in the main for a real bargain. They are not likely to buy something from you where the price is much the same as it could be found off line, or on a more normal shopping website
Bargains Gallore On Ebay
There are lots of bargains you can find as a shopper on the online auction sites, where for example someone spells their item wrong. This can mean that no so many people know that the item in question is actually running on the auction. If people search for the items they are looking for by just using main keywords, then if something is spelled wrong, then the item wont show up, for the main search people might be doing. Generally it is just a case of some of the letters being mixed around. If someone was in a bit of a hurry when they were setting their auction up, then you can see that it would be easy to spell something wrong, simply by pressing the keys on your keyboard slightly wrong. Of course if you are a seller, then you should always check and double check that what you have written is right, especially in the title or description of your item
Making Sure Your Item Will Sell
One of the ways to make sure you are going to be successful with your online auction, to do some preparation first. Instead of just "diving in" and "having a go", it pays to watch out which items on the auction site are actually selling, and which are "dive bombing". It's surprising to find that some items just wont sell whatever you do to them, or whatever the price you put them in at, whereas their are other items, which are really in demand, and sell like hot cakes
You can easily take a look at the items similar to the ones you are going to sell, and see for example how many bids there are. If you see quite a few items which either dont sell at all, or dont get any bids, then its probably better to think of something else you can sell. there are quite a few people who sell things they have produced or made themselves. This can be a very profitable venture, especially if what you are producing is generally hard to find offline or even online on other website. The more difficult it is to find something, the more money you could probably sell it for. I would also suggest you get hold of any items you are going to sell, at the cheapest possible price. Given that you are going to have to sell them at a big discount, and bearing in mind there is postage to add, and things like Paypal fees to factor in to your prices, then you absolutely must get your auction items, at the lowest possible wholesale type price to begin with
Becoming A Power Seller On Ebay
Some people have become so good at selling their wares on Ebay, that they have become powersellers. This means they have sold sometimes, hundreds if not thousands of items. It can be a good idea to track these individual and see what they are selling and what prices they are charging. You will see that many of these powersellers, list their items every day, so they have auction just about always in progress. You will also see that they generally start their auction off at as little as 99c and let the auction build from there. This is part of the secret of success - simply let people bid up the price of your item. Its a bit of a funny system on Ebay, but if you put an item in too high, you wont get any bids, but if you started your auction off at as little as 99c, its just amazing that the final price could be well in excess of the original price you were going to charge. What happens is that people start bidding and then fall in love with the item that they want, one you get a few like that, your bidders cant give up and so the price gets higher and higher!
